I knew you would not be able to read this page so I asked Mark if there would be enough room here, and he said, yes. I hope the spacing is ok!

The Beginning

It has been a little over two years since Dylon’s last hospital stay, and recently the first thing people have asked me is, “How is Dylon doing?” It had gotten scary to answer because he was actually doing so great I felt like I might mess something up by answering.

Tuesday, February 9, 1999 was an ordinary day, I took Dylon to all of his therapies and he seemed fine. Later that evening he went over to Mam-maw’s for a little while, and then Popa brought him home. I was cleaning out the closet while Krystal was on the computer; Dylon was playing on the floor between us and getting into everything. Later that night I went to get him ready for bed and noticed that his hands felt very warm. I was talking to Cari on the phone and commented that Dylon felt like he had fever, I reached to get the thermometer and the battery was dead. It takes a 9-volt and I did not have any new ones, so Cari and I finally remembered that smoke detectors take 9 volts. When I finally got to take his temperature it was 103.5! Needless to say, I almost had a fit; I just had a bad feeling about this one.

All night long I tried to get his temp down with Tempra and Advil, but I could not get it below 100. Early in the morning it had gone back up to 103 and he could not keep any of his medicines down. I finally got him in the bathtub and got his temp low enough to keep the Advil in him. We met Dr. Davis at his office that morning at 10:30. He said Dylon sounded great, the only thing he could find was a red throat. We started antibiotics and went home. That whole day he did not want anyone touching him and he cried and fussed all day long.

Thursday morning Dylon woke up and seemed to be doing better. His fever was down, and he started playing some. Before lunch he went to sleep. After all he had been through with his fever, I knew he was sleeping hard.
