The Nightmare Begins

Sunday morning, February 14, 1999 (Day 4) is a Valentine’s Day that will never be forgotten.

The doctor was called at 5:30 a.m. because Dylon’s pulse ox had dropped to the mid 80’s on the 3 liters. She requested another chest x-ray be taken. She said, more pneumonia was seen on the right side and now some new stuff in the left side.

Dylon was then transferred from the nasal cannula’s at 3 liters to a 40% oxygen mask. This did not change his pulse ox by much so he was increased to 50%. This is the limit for oxygen allowed to stay out of PICU. Dr. Warren, Dylon’s regular pulmonary doctor went, ahead and increased him to 60% and said that if that worked he could stay on the floor. But it did not make enough difference for us to feel comfortable staying in a room so at 11:30 a.m. PICU was called.

At 1:00 p.m. Dylon entered PICU for the fourth time in his life.
