Dylon was first placed on BiPap to help oxygenate him better to hopefully keep him off of the ventilator. But soon it was clear the ventilator was needed.
A Central venous line and arterial lines were placed to help monitor his blood pressure and blood gasses. They are also used to give medications. The setting on the ventilator were climbing so he was giving versed to sedate him and vecuronium to keep him from moving. This was due to the dangers of being on a peep ten or higher. His was now on 18, but his oxygen is down from 100% to 55%. PEEP – positive end expiratory pressure is used to keep the lungs full of oxygen even while exhaling.)
Now Dylon’s blood pressure begins to drop so he was started on Dopamine to help stabilize it and then later the dose is increased due to it still being low.
Finally we got back in to see him after several hours of waiting and wondering what was going on. It seemed to be our first nightmare all over again.
