Connections

By:Vonnie Kaylor

Scrapbooking is important to me because it represents a
journey to a new horizon. We have arrived at the new
millennium with advanced technology, medical break-throughs,
as well as extended space travels. We also, as humans, yearn
to bring our past with us, so we may remain connected to
our origins. We have a natural instinct ,in spite of the
new century, to cherish and preserve and to cling to what is familiar.
Entering the new millennium is an exciting new challenge. What faces us is unknown. We can find security and comfort with familiarity. One thing we can take with
us anywhere, any time, any place is our memories.
Today we remember ancestors who lived before us. We share family recipes, still practice family traditions and preserve what is near and dear to us. We treasure old family photos and keepsakes.
Years ago people kept albums in black paper books with some being more elaborate than others. Today we also make albums, dubbing them "scrapbooks". It is just a new name with an old concept.
As we travel into the new millennium, scrapbooking will make that journey with us. As a comet hurdles through space picking up speed, so has our daily lives. I love
scrapbooking because I long for quiet times to reflect,
spend quality time with other family members sharing this passion, and keep our memories alive!
Scrapbooking has changed my life in many ways. When I
take a photo now I view it very differently than
before. When I attend scrapbook events, I meet people from all over the U.S.A. and Canada and I love to share ideas with them. Scrapbooking is a whole new world and it is
exhilarating.
We are driven to preserve the ties that bond us. I feel
scrapbooking is the glue that binds us and enables us all
to stay connected!
