The Wonderful Legacy of Scrapbooks

By:Maryellen G.

I began scrapbooking just about a year ago, and it has taken over my life. I can't go a week without sitting down to do a layout, and when I do, I usually pump out ten or more pages. I've been known to stay up until three in the morning trying to come up with just the right look. I am truly addicted.
The thing I love the most about this hobby is that it has given me a way to let my creative juices flow, while at the same time I am able to preserve my family's memories for generations to come. I think about how much fun it will be to look through the albums with my kids, five, ten and twenty-five years from now, and I can only imagine what my great-grandchildren will think of them. At my last family reunion, one of the great-aunts brought her diaries from when she was a teenager, and everyone just poured over them. It was so wonderful to see what was important to her, and the words she had used. We could all see that many things had dramatically changed since her youth, and yet many things had not. It made me feel so much closer to her. I was thankful she had brought them.
I hope that my albums will give someone else that same feeling one day, for then it will be all worth the effort.
