Remembering my Life
By:Anissa Stringer
Before I started scrapbooking I was horrified at the end of one year to realize that I couldn't remember much of what happened over the previous 12 months. Scrapbooking has changed that. Not only do I have documentation and pictures about all of the important things in my daughters life, but I also have the details about all of the events that I experience each year, good and bad. I have recorded the joys: the birth of my child; finding an agent for my book; and seeing old friends. And I have recorded the challenging times: struggling with depressing; marital difficulties and an abusive employer. Even though some of these times are difficult to scrapbook and to look back on, I find that this process has strengthened me. No matter what happens, I know that there will ALWAYS be good times in life.
Because of my work on our scrapbooks, my daughter will have an incredibly detailed record of her life and mine to look back on. She will know the joy she has brought into my life, and may even be able to use some of my notes about the challenges of life during her own difficult times.
I can't even begin to imagine what day-to-day life was like in my grandmother's time, let alone my great-grandmother's time, but with the scrapbooks I create, my own descendants and relatives won't be able to say the same thing! I believe that scrapbooking is one of the most important things I can do with my free time. I am providing the future with a small but thorough sampling of my life!
