Moments Shared

By:Christina R. Acevedo-Gomez

Why do I love scrapbooking you ask? I love this hobby because it relaxes me and at the same time I am preserving the history of my family. I just recently gave birth to a 10-lb. baby boy on 9/9/99. He brings so much joy to my life and as our first born son and my father's favorite, you can't help but laugh with him and at all his little quirks. I love to work on his scrapbook every chance I get. I also have a family scrapbook that I work on simultaneously. This scrapbook contains pictures of my family when I was a child. My mother was 47 and my father was 49 when I was born and now they are 74 and 76 and enjoying their retirement. The difference in age and the generation gap is obvious, but there is just something about this baby that brings us all together. My father enjoys seeing what I've done in my scrapbooks and encourages me to continue. On the other hand, my husband thinks I'm spending a little too much money on supplies. Our family may not always be able to get together for some reason or another, but when we do it's a scrapbook moment. My mother has Alzheimer's Disease and cannot remember the events that I've captured in my scrapbooks, but she gets as much joy as I do just looking at all the silly faces, exciting moments, and candid shots. My scrapbooks help me focus on what's important in life and that is every living moment that I spend with my family. The time we get together is precious and to keep those moments alive is worth all the money that it takes to complete all my scrapbooks. What more can I say, but that this hobby has changed my life. I can now appreciate the time I spend with my family even more, because I can savor every thought, feeling and emotion by creating exciting pages in my scrapbooks.
