Scrapbooking: My Life; Past, Present and Future

By:Susan Shute

Through my scrapbooking I am able to tell the story of my family; my ancestors, my family from the time of dating to the current joy my grandchildren are giving me, and future generations will be able to know about their heritage by paging through my scrapbooks. Not everyone is interested in exploring their backgrounds. Digging through files of data on information about people who have been dead for centuries does not pique everyones interest, but seeing those people brought to life in the photos and stories in a scrapbook interests people who aren't even relatives. Friends love to look through my albums. I am able to use my creativity on every page. I was always a "crafty" person. I enjoyed making crafts for gifts for family and friends. Now my gifts are my scrapbooks which will last for generations to come.

People tell me that they don't have time to scrapbook. I don't have time to NOT scrapbook. My mother and both of her parents have passed away. My father is 75 years old and both of his parents have passed. If I don't do this, who will? I work with my daughter who has a daycare in my home. I have children here from 5 a.m. til 4:30 p.m. That is a long and sometimes stress-ful day. I find my scrapbooking to be relaxing in the evening. I love taking photos of my five grandsons (who are at my house almost every day) and telling of the joy they give me in my scrapbook pages. I make duplicate pages for my daughters at the same time I make my pages. The boys love to look at "their storybooks".

Scrapbooking has changed my life because it has shown me how important it is to pass our heritage on to our children; to talk to them about our parents and grandparents, to show how we live from day to day. I don't just breeze through the days anymore. Now I savor each day; while I live them, as I scrapbook them, and again when I look back at my scrapbooks.

I love the dmarie web site because I can find everything I need at one place, I can place my order from my home and have it delivered to my door. I can spend more time scrapbooking, because I can spend less time running around looking for the items I need.
