Scrapbooking...More Than Preserving Memories!

Why is scrapbooking important to me? Scrapbooking has filled a void left in my life after I moved away from my home after 25 years. It was my first time away from home and my family. In moving 660 miles away, I left the only life I had ever known behind. Starting fresh was exciting, but hard at the same time. I missed my family and friends. I didn't have many friends in my new town and at first spent a lot of time alone in my apartment.

Then my boyfriend's mother introduced me to scrapbooking. I went to a class and absolutely loved it! I got to meet new people, learn a new hobby and preserve my precious memories all at the same time! I was hooked after the first class! Bought the whole kit-n-kaboodle as far as the supplies went. Dove right into it, making gifts for my family members.

But how did this change my life? I met new friends. I learned a new skill and started going to weekly workshops.
I had a great time going through all my photos and organzing them. It made me feel closer to my family who was so far away. It gave me some independence from being stuck in my apartment all the time. I also now had an outlet for my creative side.

I worked extremely hard on finishing two books for my mother and father as Christmas gifts. The look on their faces when they saw them was priceless! I was so proud that I found something to occupy my time, that allows me to be social and that can bring about such great results! After working on the gifts for family, I am finally starting on my own personal scrapbook.

Scrapbooking is also important to me because it allows me to preserve my memories. It is a way to display my pictures and get rid of those shoeboxes full of pictures. Using the correct methods, my pictures now can last forever. At the same time, I get to use my own creative talents to do so. It definitely creates coffee table talk!

I am thankful that I was introduced to scrapbooking. It has done wonders for me. I now have great friends in my new town. People who share the same interests as me and who can share their ideas. It brought me out of my shell. I love having a part in creating something that brings smiles to the faces of those who get to see the finished product. At the same time I am protecting my cherished memories, I am growing as a person. Thank you!
