How Scrapbooking has brought my family together
By:Carla Riley-Felt
I recently started scrapbooking so that I could document my son's life. I wanted to capture all the stories and thoughts about our family. As I started doing this I started thinking about the rest of my mother's family pictures that I know are just collecting dust at my mothers house.
I am now the proud owner of 6 boxes of old family photos dating back to the mid-1800's. No one has ever done a scrapbook so I have quite a project ahead of me. I even have a great picture of my great grand parents at the Alakan gold rush (1898). Now my son will not only have his pictures but stories and pictures of his ancestors as well.
I realised that I had very few pictures from my father's side of the family. I started calling people and am now in contact with aunts and uncles I haven't seen in 30 years. They are sending me pictures, stories and family trees. I have become closer to my father, we had been estranged for many years. We are actually even talking to each other!
I started this to document my son's life, but what I have accomplished is opening up my life to the rest of my family!
