Why is Scrapbooking Important?
By:Sherry in WV
For the past three years I have scrapbooked as a hobby and creative outlet. I live with three men so there isn't much positive feedback. I simply do it because I enjoy it.
This year I completed a heritage album and presented it to my mother-in-law on Mother's Day. This book encompassed her life from infancy to the celebration of her 90th birthday. Two days after the WTC attack, my dear mother-in-law passed away unexpectedly. When we arrived at the funeral home, inside the entrance sat two pedestals - one with the guest book and the other with the scrapbook. I was totally speechless. After the surprise wore off, I was worried about everyone seeing my "amatuer" scrapbook.
The scrapbook was surrounded by people all through the viewing! I caughte bits and pieces of "Remember when we lived in that house" and "I never seen that picture before" or "I remember that picture of Aunt Bessie with the chicken in the background. I spent a couple months after the funeral copying pictures at the request of different distant relatives that I never even knew I had!
We may not realize it now, but preserving those pictures and memories will be important somewhere down the road!
