Scrapbooking is...

By:Janine E.

Scrapbooking is a clever way for the enemies of the state to get women to forget about cooking, cleaning, or any other activity that contributes to a smoothly running home. A moment of inspiration and I'm completely absorbed for hours in the details of placing those "snail-collecting" photos just right on my page. And don't even talk to me about the "cookie-baking" or "school-program" photos. I used to try to justify my obsession with the tried and true line, "I'm preserving my family memories for my children and their children". Yeah, yeah, yeah, but that doesn't explain why I have every color of cardstock ever made. Or why I spend two days on one layout that becomes my personal masterpiece which I must show off to every person who visits my house.

And I would be remiss if I neglected to mention the fact that I've entrapped most of my friends in this fiendish plot as well. Now, we all meet at least once or twice a month so we can feed our addictions together. (Group fixes are especially satisfying). My friends and I have a language set apart from the others, we talk "die-cuts" and "pop-ups" and "pocket-pages". I sometimes feel sorry for the one hold-out on my block, she just gets a blank look when start discussing our latest layout idea. Of course I still have hope of bringing her into the fold as well.

Scrapbooking is more than a hobby, it's more than being a family historian. Scrapbooking is something that keeps you up late at night even when you have to get up early the next morning. It causes you to take more photos and plan your page while you're taking them. Scrapbooking is the longest running creative activity I've ever tried. The supplies for all my other projects sit abandoned in my craft closet while my scrapbooking stuff has littered my house for almost 5 years now. Scrapbooking is a lifelong passion, yes an obsession. Scrapbooking is an addiction that I plan to indulge in forever, taking as many of my friends down with me as I can!.
