My scrapbooking obsession

By:Annie Davis

I started scrapbooking in January of 1997, just weeks after my first child was born. My sister-in-law had introduced me to the "hobby," but I wasn't sure that it was something I really wanted to do. I had started plenty of hobbies before scrapbooking. I had bought the supplies, started and then just as quickly stopped. This time, I wanted to make sure that scrapbooking was something here to stay.

It took me days just to decided to buy something. I searched the scrapbooking aisles of Michael's and Party City (unfortunatley there wasn't much to buy then) and finally decided that I wanted to start scrapbooking. Little did I know that soon I would become a scrap addict, hording supplies and obsessing over layouts. My little hobby has grown into something that I truly love and is very important to my family and myself.

I quickly realized that this was a much needed creative outlet that allowed me to record not only the major milestones and accomplishments but the feelings of the events and even the smallest moment or look.

I now try to capture everything on film. My local photo developers know me by name and know that I alone will be able to keep them in business for a very long time. I want my children to be able to look back on th times that they can't actually remember and have the feeling that they know what it felt like on their first Christmas or the day they were born. I want my children to know just how much they are loved and cherished. I know that through my labor of love, they will know. This is why scrapbooking is so important to me.
